July 2nd Summer Update

We recognize how exceedingly difficult the last few months have been for families, and as we prepare for next year, we understand that there may be more obstacles ahead as we expand in-class instruction. We will continue to manage these challenges together, always with a primary focus on the safety and well-being of our entire school community. Thanks to those of you who provided feedback on our school-based survey.

The staff at Abby Middle wish you a restful, activity filled summer! As a final farewell, we are leaving with some reminders and information regarding the upcoming school year.

If you would like to get a hold of us in th summer, there are several ways to do so.  The school office will be open for much of the summer, but at reduced hours.  It's best to call ahead to check for availability at 604-859-7125.  Our email will be checked periodically over the summer, only emergent emails will receive a response.

While we typically have an New Student/Parent Orientation the week before school starts, COVID restrictions will most likely not allow us to do it this year.  Stay tuned for details.

Pod lists will be posted on the front doors on the first day of school, Tuesday Sept. 8. Please note, these are not final lists and are subject to change.

Teachers and Administrators take the responsibility of creating Pod lists very seriously and put much time and effort into creating balanced pods. While we typically loop our grade 6 and 7 classes, and we do our best to keep Gr. 7 students with their Gr. 6 teachers, our fluctuating enrollment and staffing requires us to occasionally move some teachers in or out of their current grade. Students may also be moved out of their current Pod to support class size and composition guidelines, or to create additional or split classes. We hope to have our final pod lists completed by Monday, September 14

What school looks like in September will depend on where we are in the current COVID-19 Pandemic. We are optimistically planning for a regular return, recognizing that we could return to a schedule similar to June or something in between. Rest assured, we are planning for these 3 possibilities (remote, hybrid, or full start-up) and will communicate the plan prior to the first day of school (Sept. 8, 2020). The district is currently working on a Future Learning Plan Framework (Toti:ltcha) and has requested feedback from the community. Please complete the survey by Friday, July 3.

We will send out a mid summer update near the end of July, and then will publish details of our September start-up when we have them, most likely in late August.

Have a wonderful Summer Break!
