Collaboration Days

Dear parents and guardians of Abbotsford Middle School students,As many of you know, Abbotsford Middle is authorized to offer the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program (IB-MYP). IB-MYP is an internationally recognized program.  We are one of several thousand schools in the world, and one of 35 schools in the province, to offer it.  We are proud to be able to provide a world class education for your child! In order to successfully implement and meet the requirements of the MYP and the BC Curriculum, an extensive amount of teacher collaboration and preparation is required. We have received approval for 14 Collaboration Days for the remainder of the school year (see the attached schedule for dates).  The first one is Thursday, Oct. 12th.  These days are aligned with Abbotsford Senior’s Collaboration Days. Please see below for the Collaboration Day schedule. On Collaboration Days the welcome bell will be at 9 am and Block 1 will start at 9:05 am. On these mornings teachers will be working together to meet the aims and objectives of MYP and the learning outcomes of the BC Curriculum.Buses will run at regular times on these days.  If you choose to send your child to school earlier in the day, supervision will start as always at 8 am by Mr. Beck and Mr. Penner.  At 8:25 our support staff will also be available to supervise students who wish to read or work quietly in the Aboriginal Education room, the DEN, the Library Learning Commons, and the MPR.  Students can work in these areas if they wish until the welcome bell at 9 am. Thank you for your support.  If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me by phone (604-859-7125) or by e mail jamie.beck@abbyschools.caFor more info regarding calendars and bell schedules, please see for details.
